Mantank Achieves ISO 14001 Certification: May 2011

After a number of years in the approval process, the ASCB(E) has awarded Mantank ISO 14001 ‘Environmental Management Systems’ status. The realization of this standard marks a considerable achievement on Mantanks behalf and further propels Mantank into an internationally recognized responsible business. Clients can be further assured in all aspects management control and processes that Mantank, at every step, has proved it considers all aspects over which it has control.

ISO 14001 relates to environmental issues. Although it is a system standard, it requires organizations to identify and assess environmental aspects and take necessary control to reduce environmental impacts. Clearly within the industrial cleaning business, this goes a considerable amount further than ensuring paper is correctly recycled. From toxic and flammable tank cleaning or environmentally sensitive dewatering to industrial cleaning and plant decommissioning, Mantank has the proven management skills to deal with all client requirements. ISO 14001 was first published in 1996 and specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management system. It applies to those environmental aspects which the organization has control and over which it can be expected to have an influence. The standard is not an environmental management system as such but rather serves instead as a framework to assist in developing bespoke environmental management systems. Within Mantank, ISO 14001 is integrated with its ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001-2007 certification to ensure the business meets its environmental and economic goals within applicable legislation.

ISO 14001 is often seen as the corner stone standard of the ISO 14000 series. This standard is applicable to any organization that wishes to:

•    implement, maintain and improve an environmental management system
•    assure itself of its conformance with its own stated environmental policy (those policy commitments of course must be made)
•    demonstrate conformance
•    ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations
